In addition to getting physically healthier, this challenge is also about positively impacting the general well being of me and my family.
This week’s challenge is to help me connect better with my family.
It isn’t uncommon on workdays that I pick the girls up from daycare and then throw on the tv shortly after getting in the house. Also, because I haven’t been on social media all day, I like to take 15 minutes to quickly peruse my facebook, Pinterest and email. While everyone is entertained during that time, we are so disconnected as a family.
With this challenge, my goal is to not get on my phone to check out social media stuff until the girls go down at 7:30. That still gives me plenty of time to catch up before bed. As for watching tv? While I don’t see us cutting it out entirely (I do appreciate some down time after being at work all day!), I am going to try to eliminate half hour each day. It’s all about baby steps! 🙂
Want to know how I did with last week’s challenge? Surprisingly, better than I thought I would! I strapped on a pedometer to see how far off I was from reaching the recommended 10,000 steps a day. A couple days I even passed the target!
I have to say that I underestimated the amount of steps I was taking just around the house… going downstairs to put on a load of laundry, running back and forth to the kitchen for snacks for the kids and more of the like!
Here are my tallies:
Wednesday – 6,147
Thursday – 10,251
Friday – 10,384
Saturday – 7,937
Sunday – 9,609
While I didn’t participate in the challenge for the whole week because I didn’t get my hands on a pedometer until Wednesday due to my trip to NYC, I fully intend on wearing the pedometer all the time. It did a great job of letting me know how I’m doing and I found myself going out of my way to get more steps (like walking to the store, taking the stairs, and walking around the office to visit colleagues rather than sending an email). It definitely is serving a purpose!
