DIY Canvas Nursery Artwork

Yesterday I posted about the themed baby shower gift I brought to Jenn’s shower.

I included a DIY for the nursery based on a book that was in the gift.

This artwork was easy to make and also inexpensive. Besides the canvas (which cost $1.25 each at the dollar store), I already had all the materials which made it a great budget-friendly project.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Gather your materials

I used:

  • Canvas (I used 8×10)
  • Decorative paper
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Glue
  • Mod Podge
  • Computer printouts with text (not shown)

Step 2: Paint your canvas

I alternated colours and used an acrylic paint from the dollar store.

Step 3: Set up your border

Cut your decorative paper to size and glue to the canvas once the paint has dried.

Step 4: Print out your text and attach

I used Word to set this up but you could also find a free printable online. Want to use my printables?  Click the images above to download.

Step 5: Seal it with Mod Podge

I used about 3 coats and then let it dry overnight. By morning they were good to go!

  1. I love you work. Did you ever use vinyl for the lettering or just paper? If you did use vinyl, what medium did you use to make it stick better? Thank you for your time and sharing your beautiful work! Carolyn

    • Thanks for the feedback! I haven’t experimented with vinyl – just paper. Maybe that will be the next medium I try!
