DIY Photo Coasters

My wonderful sister-in-law and her husband recently celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to test out my DIY gifting abilities. Especially considering one of my fave bloggers, Dream Green DIY, posted this tutorial for photo coasters.

It was the perfect gift idea! It would be personalized, super easy and inexpensive… the tiles were only $0.29 each from a home improvement supply store!

Here’s how I made this awesome gift.

Step 1: Gather your materials

I used:
• 4 x 6 black and white pictures
• 4 x 4 tiles
• Mod Podge
• Sponge applicator
• Scissors
• Rubber stoppers

Step 2: Trim photos to size

I cut the picture a little smaller that the tile so there would be a small white border on each sides of the photo.

Step 3: Glue photo to tile

Use Mod Podge on the back of the photo to affix it to the tile.

Step 4: Seal the photo

Use a thin layer of Mod Podge over the photo and the tile. I added a few more layers of Mod Podge, waiting at least 20 minutes between coats.

Step 5: Add stoppers

I found a 24 pack of rubber stoppers at my local dollar store. These are perfect for preventing the tiles from scratching any surfaces they come into contact with but you can also use furniture pads cuts to size.

I LOVED how these turned out and my sister-in-law loved them too!

I’m happy to report there were even some tears involved when I gave them to her (hopefully as the result of the emotion this gift evoked and not my poor attempt at this DIY gift!)
