Homemade Makeup Brush Cleaner

I came across this recipe for homemade makeup brush cleaner a little while back and I’ve been meaning to try it out.

With a day off today and rainy weather which isn’t allowing any outside DIYing, I figured today was as good a day as any!

The ingredients list is simple (and inexpensive for anyone on a budget!):

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. liquid dish detergent

Water + vinegar + dish soap = homemade makeup brush cleaner

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and start cleaning! Swish your brushes around and watch the water turn a disgusting shade of brown/grey/pink.

Testing it out with my foundation brush

Give your brush a quick rinse under the faucet and lay it to dry.

Don’t stand your brushes up to dry. The water can seep down into the handle and cause bristles to fall out.

My blush brush was pretty bad (I hate to admit it but the last time I cleaned it was probably a good 6 months ago) but after a few swishes around the bowl it was good as new!

I love my blush!

Looks prettier than what was in the bowl after my eye shadow brushes!

Oh, and don’t worry about your brushes smelling like vinegar. The dish detergent counters the smell.

I love how well this recipe worked and I will definitely continue to use it in the future.  Going forward, I’m going to try and clean my makeup brushes once a month. It was on my cleaning checklist after all!
